2019 marks the 90th anniversary of The Southern Vectis Omnibus Company which was incorporated on 27th August 1929.
We will be celebrating this milestone with our Rydabus running weekend on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May when up to 35 vintage buses and coaches, many with Island heritage, will be operating a network of free bus services around the Ryde area from the Museum’s home at the old bus depot on Park Street. These services will be based on the Southern Vectis Summer 1979 timetable when the company commemorated its Golden Jubilee.
Services from the Museum start at 11:00 on Saturday and 10:00 on Sunday, with the first free bus to the Museum bus leaving 10 minutes earlier each day from the special event bus stop at the Rose Garden on Ryde Esplanade.
The Rydabus 2019 route map, and a list of buses and coaches expected to be operating in service during the weekend, will be published here as soon as they are finalised.
Souvenir Programmes, containing details of all Rydabus route service timetables and a brief history of all participating vehicles, will be available for pre-order; again watch this space for more information…
